The short version
- You can add a child under 18 if you are their parent or legal guardian.
- You can add an adult only if they agree or you have legal authority to act for them.
- Their details are private. Only you can see, use or change the profile you made.
- If you answer a check for an adult who is with you, you tell us on what basis you are helping.
- That adult confirms later, when they are able to.
- Teens may have private health matters. Talk with them about what you save.
- You can delete a profile at any time.
1. Who this is for
This page is for parents, guardians and anyone who helps another person with their health on Ionyx. "The person" means the child or adult you are helping.
When you agree in Ionyx, the wording uses the person's first name. Here it says "the person".
2. What happens to the person's details
When you add someone you care for, you agree to these points:
- The person's details are saved in your Ionyx account and kept private.
- They fill in the checks you do for the person and appear on the reports from those checks.
- Doctors see them on the reports you share and at visits you book for the person.
- You can change or delete the person's profile at any time. Deleting it removes the saved details straight away.
Reports a provider has already used are part of the person's medical record. They are kept for the time the law requires, even if you delete the profile.
The person cannot see your account. You can add up to 10 people.
3. Children under 18
Children cannot have their own Ionyx account. A parent or legal guardian adds them to their own account.
To add a child, you confirm:
- I am the person's parent or legal guardian (or I have the legal right to make health decisions for the person).
Teenagers
Teens can have health matters they want to keep private, like sexual health, mood or drug and alcohol use. In many places teens can see a doctor about these on their own. Talk with your teen about what you save here. When they turn 18 you will need their agreement to keep using their profile.
Video visits for children
A parent or guardian must be on camera for the whole of a child's video visit. Video is only offered for children aged 2 and over.
4. Adults you care for
To save an adult's details, you choose one of these:
- The person said yes. The person has told me I can keep their health details in my Ionyx account and use them for their symptom checks.
- I have legal authority. I am the person's legal guardian or I hold a health care power of attorney or similar legal authority for the person.
You also promise:
- I will only use the person's details to help with the person's care. I will delete this profile if the person asks me to or if I no longer have the right to keep it.
5. When a child turns 18
When a person on your account turns 18, they need to agree before you keep using their profile for checks. Or you need legal authority to act for them.
Until then, the profile cannot be used for new checks.
6. Answering a check for an adult who is with you
Sometimes an adult cannot answer Ion's questions themselves. For example, they may be confused, very tired or unable to speak. If they are with you, you can answer for them.
Before you start, you choose one of these:
- I am helping with their knowledge. The person knows I am answering these questions for them and is happy for me to do it.
- I am their legal guardian or hold power of attorney. I have the legal right to make health decisions for the person.
Only share what the person would be happy for you to share. Answer as truthfully as you can. If you are not sure of an answer, choose "Not sure".
They confirm later
When the person is able to, we ask them to confirm that they agree to the check and to any sharing with a provider. The doctor checks with them at the visit. They can also tell us at any time by writing to techsupport@ionyxai.com.
If the person says no, we stop using the check for anything new. A report a provider has already used stays part of the person's medical record, as the law requires.
If it is an emergency
Do not do a check. Call 919 or 911.
7. Medical ID for someone you care for
You can make a medical ID card for a person you care for. Before scanning is turned on, you confirm one of these:
- For a child: I am the person's parent or legal guardian and I can share this for the person.
- For an adult: the person knows about this medical ID and agreed to it.
8. Our record of your agreement
We keep a record of what you agreed to, the name you typed and the date.
When you delete a profile, the person's health details are removed. Our record of the agreement stays. It holds no health details.
9. Signing
Tick the statements that are true. Then type your full name to sign. Then tap "Agree and save".
